Moving untreated firewood across state lines or long distances can introduce destructive invasive pests that threaten New Mexico's forests, landscapes and ecosystems. The New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA) is calling on residents, retailers and landowners to help prevent the spread of these hidden threats by buying firewood where they burn it.

New Mexicans Weigh In On Transition To Universal Child Care At ECECD Public Hearing In Santa Fe
New Mexicans turned out in large numbers Thursday to share feedback on proposed rule changes from the Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD) that advance the state’s proposed transition to universal child care, set to begin Nov. 1. The public hearing drew a full auditorium and more than 500 participants online, with ECECD receiving 66 oral public comments from families, providers, and community partners statewide. Additionally, 127 written comments were submitted during the comment period, which opened Sept. 9.

NMMNHS Announces Enormous New Duck-Billed Dinosaur Species Identified In Northwest New Mexico
A team of researchers, including a pair of paleontologists from the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science (NMMNHS), has identified a massive new species of duck-billed dinosaur in the rocks of northwestern New Mexico. This newly discovered dinosaur, which researchers named Ahshiselsaurus wimani, lived around 75 million years ago and may have weighed more than nine tons.
